Handcrafted Since 1972
McIntyre Tile Company was founded in 1972 by a group of ceramic innovators charmed by the beauty of art pottery. Inspired by the local landscape in Healdsburg, CA, the artist began to design and develop their first handmade artisan ceramic tile pieces. From there, the ceramics team spent a year developing their first stoneware field tiles. The original collection was prized by San Francisco architects and designers for their warm, earthy look and color characteristics.
When the use of color exploded in the 1980’s, the McIntyre ceramics team created a pure white porcelain claybody to embrace a new color pallet of vibrant and clear glazes. The distinctive styles of stoneware and porcelain inspired product versatility. As the demand for new and inventive creations emerged, so did the product offering. McIntyre enhanced the product library by adding trim tiles and extruded trim shapes during this era.
McIntyre has always been known for its decorative tiles featuring hand-painted art work and hand-cut mosaics. The vision of translating the essence of studio art into field, trim and decorative tiles defined McIntyre’s approach of creating quality tiles inspired by everyday wonders.
